An accident occurred on Wednesday evening at the Carlisle Regional Airport in Cumberland, Pennsylvania, where a state police helicopter collided with a small aircraft, a Cessna 150.
The helicopter, which was conducting routine training exercises, was struck from behind by the Cessna aircraft, which turned right after takeoff. Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens, acting commissioner of the State Police, stated that the helicopter was a few meters above the ground at the time of the collision, and the pilots did not have time to notice the plane.
As a result of the impact, the pilot of the plane died, and the two police officers in the helicopter were trapped, one of them managing to break a window to help the other escape. Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene.
