A serious railway accident occurred in the town of Buggenhout, in the Flanders region of Belgium, where a train collided with a school minibus at a level crossing. According to preliminary information, there were seven children, a teacher, and the driver in the vehicle, and several people lost their lives as a result of the extremely violent impact.
Belgian authorities reported that the accident happened around 08:00, while the barriers at the railway crossing were down. The train was supposed to stop at a station about a kilometer away, but the driver could not avoid the collision. No passengers on the train were injured.
The case is being investigated by the police and the Belgian railway operator Infrabel to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy. Belgian officials have sent messages of condolence to the families of the victims and those affected by the accident.
