Toyota announces an unexpected change in leadership. Kenta Kon, the current chief financial officer, will take over as CEO in April, replacing Koji Sato, who had a tenure of only three years. This reshuffle comes in the context of a 43% decline in quarterly profit, from 2.19 trillion yen to 1.25 trillion yen, and a 26% annual decrease in total profit. Toyota officials emphasize that the change is not related to management issues, but rather the need to adapt to a changing global environment. Kenta Kon is considered an expert in improving financial results and has experience in automated management. Although Koji Sato will leave the CEO position, he will remain vice president of the group. The change comes at a time of instability for the Japanese auto sector, with cost pressures and the impact of tariffs imposed by the U.S. Toyota's shares rose by 2% following the announcement of the leadership change.
