<p>Construction of the Thessaloniki metro started in 2006, but archaeological discoveries, such as a Byzantine-era square and a Roman cemetery, have delayed completion. Metro stations display the artifacts discovered. The metro took almost 20 years to complete because of funding problems during Greece's debt crisis.
