A Pentagon official tasked with developing the national drone industry stated on Monday that the United States is still in the initial and most difficult phase of this effort, acknowledging that production remains a fraction of that of Ukraine.
Travis Metz, deputy director and operational director of the Defense Innovation Unit, which has been coordinating the Pentagon's Drone Dominance Program since last fall, stated that Ukraine will produce between six and seven million FPV (first-person view) attack drones this year, equivalent to approximately 500,000 units per month.
In comparison, the Pentagon's program, valued at $1.1 billion, will reach total orders of just under 200,000 drones by February.
