The U.S. Embassy has issued an alert and is urging all American citizens to leave Iran immediately

On September 19, the US Virtual Embassy in Iran advised American citizens not to travel to the country and to leave immediately, citing the unpredictable deterioration of the security situation in the Middle East and risks to air travel.

Americans in Iran are urged to check airline communications directly for information about flights, available routes, cancellations or schedule changes. US authorities warned that airspace restrictions and developments in the regional conflict could affect travel.

Iran remains at the US State Department’s highest alert level, Level 4 – Do Not Travel. The recommendation is based on risks including terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, arbitrary arrest and unlawful detention. Washington also referred to attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels on Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports.

The US does not have a physical embassy in Iran. American interests are represented by Switzerland, while consular operations are coordinated through the US Embassy in Bern, depending on security conditions. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency also continues to maintain its recommendation regarding the risks of air operations in Iranian airspace until September 30, with the possibility of revising it.
