The United States Senate has decided to eliminate the funds allocated for the security of the new ballroom that Donald Trump intends to build at the White House, according to a decision made by Elizabeth MacDonough, responsible for interpreting the Senate rules.
She determined that the funding cannot be approved through the simplified budget procedure, requiring 60 votes to pass. Although the Republican Party holds a majority of 53 to 47 in the Senate, plans to allocate approximately one billion dollars for the Secret Service in a 72 billion dollar spending package are now complicated. Trump previously stated that the ballroom will be built from private donations of 400 million dollars, describing it as 'the most beautiful building of its kind in the world.'
Democrats, including Senator Jeff Merkley, criticize the initiative as an unnecessary expense, considering the economic difficulties faced by citizens. They promise to contest any attempt by Republicans to reintroduce funding in the legislation.
