U.S. Senators will introduce a bill to impose sanctions against Hungarian officials accused of acquiring Russian energy resources and blocking European aid for Ukraine. The 'Blocking Putin' law provides for the freezing of assets and the banning of visas for the involved officials. This move comes in a context where Viktor Orbán, the Prime Minister of Hungary, has obstructed the granting of a 90 billion euro loan to Ukraine and has led a propaganda campaign against it.
Republican Senator Tom Tillis emphasized the need for a common action to support Ukraine and block revenue sources for Russia. Although Orbán is not directly mentioned in the bill, the U.S. administration will determine which Hungarian officials will be sanctioned. At the same time, Donald Trump continues to support his ally Orbán in the April elections, despite polls indicating a possible defeat for his party 'Fidesz'.
