At the International Conference on Maritime Power, Sir Gwyn Jenkins raised an alarm about the intensification of the Russian threat in the Atlantic, mentioning a 30% increase in Russian incursions into British waters over the past two years. Hostile activities, including the presence of the Yantar spy ship, which monitors underwater cables, represent a major concern. Jenkins emphasized that Britain's advantage in the Atlantic is in danger due to Russia's massive investments in its northern fleet, while the Royal Navy faces personnel shortages and the unavailability of submarines.

In response, the British Navy is accelerating modernization through the "Atlantic Bastion" program, which will include autonomous technologies for detecting hostile activities. A reform of the senior officer training system is also anticipated, highlighting the need for leaders capable of inspiring and leading in this tense geopolitical context.
