The United Nations has announced that it is awaiting confirmation from the Trump administration regarding the amount it intends to pay from the nearly 4 billion dollars owed.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that the organization is facing an "imminent financial collapse" if the financial rules are not revised or if all 193 member countries do not pay their dues. The United States owes 2.196 billion dollars from the regular operational budget of the UN and 1.8 billion dollars for peacekeeping operations.
American Ambassador Mike Waltz stated that the administration intends to make a significant payment soon, but the final amount has not been determined. Guterres mentioned that funds for the operational budget could be depleted by July, affecting UN operations. Additionally, 95% of the regular budget arrears are owed by the United States, with Venezuela in second place on the list of arrears.
