The Supreme Court of Delaware unanimously decided to overturn the ruling of the Court of Chancery that invalidated Elon Musk's compensation package, deemed improperly negotiated and lacking transparency. The judges emphasized that the annulment of this package left Musk 'uncompensated for his efforts' over the course of six years. The updated value of the package, in relation to the record price of Tesla shares, is estimated at approximately 140 billion dollars.
This decision puts an end to a long-running legal dispute, which led Musk to move Tesla's headquarters to Texas. His reaction on platform X was positive, thanking supporters. With the reinstatement of the 2018 package, Tesla will revoke another recently proposed 29 billion dollar compensation plan.
The previously approved 1 trillion dollar compensation package remains in effect, having ambitious performance objectives. The initial challenge was made by a minority shareholder, and the Supreme Court's decision finalizes this legal controversy.
