The American embassy announced the visit of General Francis Donovan, the head of the U.S. military command for Latin America and the Caribbean (SOUTHCOM), to Venezuela. This took place less than two months after the capture of President Nicolas Maduro following an American operation.
Laura Dogu, the head of the U.S. mission, mentioned that Donovan met with the interim authorities in Caracas to discuss security issues and to advance the goal of a Venezuela aligned with the United States.
Interim President Delcy Rodriguez, former vice president under Maduro, opened the oil sector to private investments, under U.S. pressure, and promised an amnesty law.
The embassy reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to a free and prosperous Venezuela.
General Donovan was appointed by Donald Trump in December, before Maduro's capture, and officially took over his duties in February.
