The South Korean President Lee Jae Myung requested assistance from Chinese President Xi Jinping to resume discussions with North Korea. Lee hosted Xi at a summit and a state dinner following the Asia-Pacific leaders' forum held in the South Korean city of Gyeongju, marking Xi's first visit to South Korea in the last 11 years. Xi expressed his willingness to collaborate to address common challenges, while Lee proposed a phased approach to the denuclearization of North Korea. In contrast, Pyongyang rejected these proposals, deeming them unrealistic. During the visit, seven agreements were signed between the two countries, including a currency swap. Additionally, anti-China protests took place in Seoul, highlighting internal tensions related to relations with Beijing. Lee ordered the suppression of rallies against China, emphasizing the negative impact on South Korea's image and economy.
