KAIROS has failed near the Bulgarian coast, next to Ahtopol, following a drone attack by Ukraine. Bulgarian authorities, including the Maritime Administration Agency and the Border Police, have initiated a rescue operation. Although the ship was empty and not carrying oil, the ten-member crew is safe and is in constant communication with the authorities.
The starboard anchor has been deployed, and stabilization efforts continue. Due to unfavorable weather, active maneuvers will be carried out during the day. KAIROS, a Suezmax-class tanker, is on the EU sanctions list and was towed by a Turkish tug after being hit by Ukrainian drones.
The circumstances that led to its failure in Bulgarian waters remain unclear, and the ship entered territorial waters without responding to communications. Authorities are on alert to intervene if necessary.
