The district attorney in Georgia has officially decided to drop the fraud case against Donald Trump and others, thus closing an investigation that was considered a serious threat to the former president's political future. The charges, filed on August 14, 2023, by prosecutor Fani Willis, concerned Trump's interference in the 2020 elections in Georgia. The investigation was initiated after a phone call in which Trump asked Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to "find" the necessary votes to win the state.
The case was handled by Peter Skandalakis, who did not find another prosecutor willing to take over the case. Trump surrendered at the Fulton jail in August 2023, where he was fingerprinted and photographed as a defendant. This case was considered most likely to go to court, given that it was managed at the state level.
