The Netherlands return to the Eurovision competition in 2027, with participation set to be ensured by a new television broadcaster

The Netherlands will participate in Eurovision again in 2027, following broadcaster Avrotros's withdrawal, national public broadcaster NPO announced on Wednesday, taking over responsibility for selecting the representative and broadcasting the contest.

NPO stated that it will send a Dutch artist to next year's competition, with the selection process overseen by an independent team of experts. The decision comes after Avrotros announced its withdrawal from the contest in August 2026, arguing that Eurovision “can no longer be considered neutral” because of the divisions generated by the war in Gaza.

The Dutch public broadcaster noted that the European Broadcasting Union, the competition's organizer, has since adopted important measures regarding the Eurovision rules.

NPO acknowledged that the return is taking place against the backdrop of “mixed feelings” in the Netherlands. The institution explicitly asked the EBU to bring the festival's unifying character back to the forefront and strengthen the contest's role as an international music event.
