The State Audit Office (SAO) report highlighted real estate investments worth hundreds of millions of dollars, made under the leadership of former governor György Matolcsy, which lacked adequate controls. Matolcsy, a critic of Viktor Orbán's government, will be replaced by economist Mihály Varga, a loyalist of the prime minister.
Mihály Varga announced that a criminal complaint has been filed based on the findings of an independent investigation. The SAO report emphasized the waste of resources, noting that the renovation budget nearly doubled, while the building's capacity was reduced. Matolcsy claimed that all bank actions were legal.
