The party of Argentine President Javier Milei suffered a sweeping defeat in the local elections in Buenos Aires.

The results, announced on Sunday, placed the candidate of Milei's recently formed party, La Libertad Avanza (LLA), or Liberty Advances, Diego Valenzuela, who obtained 34%, far behind Gabriel Katopodis, the left-wing candidate, who received 47.4%. LLA won only two of the eight electoral districts of the province of Buenos Aires.
