Kremlin's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, stated that the recent meetings between Russia and the United States in Miami cannot be considered a progress, emphasizing that Moscow's main goal was to obtain information about American contacts with Europeans and Ukrainians. In contrast, American envoy Steve Witkoff described the discussions as productive, and Vice President J.D. Vance mentioned progress in the peace plan. Peskov responded that he does not know what Vance meant by "progress".

The next round of discussions has not been scheduled, although Dmitriev suggested a possible meeting in Moscow. The Kremlin indicated that the year 2026 could bring better cooperation, but emphasized that the U.S. ties progress to resolving the conflict in Ukraine. The discussions in Miami, which took place between December 20-21, included consultations with Ukraine before the meeting with the Russian delegation. Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Ryabkov, confirmed that no significant progress had been made in bilateral relations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported discussions with the U.S. regarding security guarantees for Ukraine.
