Thousands of residents from the coastal areas of the Philippines have been evacuated as a precaution before the arrival of Typhoon Kalmaegi, which is heading towards Leyte Island and the Visayas archipelago. The typhoon brings with it winds of up to 140 km/h and gusts of 170 km/h, and authorities are expecting high waves and flooding.
As of Monday evening, approximately 156,000 people have been evacuated as a precaution, and authorities have warned that evacuations may continue in the coming hours as the typhoon approaches land.
