A federal judge, Christopher R. Cooper, has ruled that Donald Trump's name cannot be associated with the Kennedy Center, an iconic cultural venue in Washington, D.C.
The 94-page ruling emphasizes that the Board of Trustees exceeded its legal authority by unilaterally renaming the center to "Trump-Kennedy Center." The judge stated that only Congress has the authority to change the name of the institution, which was originally named in honor of President John F. Kennedy.
The decision comes in the context of the center being set to close for rehabilitation work, and the court order blocks this closure. The renaming was supported by Trump allies, who praised his contributions to saving the building.
This ruling represents a significant blow to the center's renovation efforts.
