The Greek government has submitted an official protest to Ukraine following an incident involving a maritime drone in the Ionian Sea, according to dpa. The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent diplomatic notes to the Ukrainian embassy in Athens and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kiev.
The incident occurred near the island of Lefkada, where fishermen found a boat approximately 6 meters long, with the engine running, which they towed to a small port. Authorities later determined that it was a Ukrainian drone, loaded with about 100 kg of explosives, which was neutralized by the coast guard through a controlled explosion.
The Greek government emphasized that the incident represents a significant threat to maritime security, with risks to civilians and the environment. Additionally, Athens warned that the expansion of military activities in the region could affect national security and Greece's economic interests, stating that Ukraine's right to self-defense does not justify such incidents in the Mediterranean Sea.
