The European Commission has temporarily suspended the preliminary assessment of Bulgaria's request for the third payment under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), amounting to 1.6 billion euros. This pause comes after the recent approval of amendments to the Bulgarian plan on November 5. The assessment will resume once EU member states give their approval. Details about the recent amendments have not been provided, and the duration of the suspension remains uncertain. Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov expressed hope that the payment will be made by the end of the year, with Bulgaria submitting the request on October 1. In the past, the second tranche was reduced by 214.5 million euros due to the failure to meet anti-corruption reforms.
