The European Commission responded to the threat from American President Donald Trump to impose a 25% tariff on cars and trucks imported from the European Union, accusing the community bloc of not respecting a trade agreement. A spokesperson for the Commission stated that the EU will keep its options open while analyzing this situation.
Bernd Lange, the chairman of the International Trade Committee of the European Parliament, condemned Trump's behavior as unacceptable and emphasized that such arbitrary attacks are not the correct way to treat close partners. Trump stated that the increase in tariffs is justified because the EU does not respect the trade agreement made last summer, noting that the measure will not apply to manufacturers that produce vehicles on American territory.
