The European Commission has announced that it will invite Taliban officials to Brussels for discussions about the repatriation of Afghan migrants, especially those who have been convicted. A letter will be sent soon to Kabul to set a date for the meeting. This initiative, coordinated with Sweden, comes after two previous visits by European officials to Afghanistan. The EU's migration policies are motivated by the desire to strengthen control over migration, and about twenty countries are seeking solutions to send migrants back. However, the discussions raise ethical questions, considering that the EU does not officially recognize the Taliban regime.

Additionally, Afghanistan is facing a severe humanitarian crisis, and the expulsion of migrants could have serious consequences. Critics from migrant protection organizations highlight the risks associated with repatriation under conditions of extreme poverty. The visit to Brussels could address practical details, such as the issuance of passports for those who do not have recognized embassies in Europe.
