The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, highlighted an alarming situation regarding the safety of children on the internet, mentioning that one in six children is bullied online. In this context, a European age verification application has been developed, which works on all devices and meets the highest standards of confidentiality. Users can prove their age without disclosing sensitive information, and the application is open-source, facilitating its use by global partners.

Several EU member states have begun integrating the application into national digital wallets. Von der Leyen compared the development of this application to the success of the COVID application, emphasizing the importance of a common strategy for online child safety. The European Commission will intensify the enforcement of rules to protect children's rights on online platforms, and the application represents an important step in this endeavor.
