The foreign ministers of the European Union have not currently shown interest in expanding the EU naval mission in the Strait of Hormuz, according to statements by Kaja Kallas, the head of European diplomacy. She emphasized that, although U.S. President Donald Trump has requested international support for monitoring the strait, which is essential for oil and gas transport, there is no "appetite" for changing the mission's mandate.

The Aspides mission, established in 2024 to protect ships from Houthi rebel attacks in the Red Sea, is currently under the command of Italian and Greek vessels, but requires strengthening.
