The leaders of the 27 member states of the European Union will meet in the coming days to discuss a response to the threats from American President Donald Trump regarding the takeover of Greenland. The President of the European Council, António Costa, announced the convening of an extraordinary meeting, emphasizing the importance of coordination in the face of this crisis, which is considered the most serious in transatlantic relations since the establishment of NATO. Ambassadors from member states met urgently in Brussels to analyze the implementation of tariffs of 93 billion euros on the United States or restricting access for American companies to the European market. The summit is scheduled for Thursday, January 22, and will be a physical meeting, not a virtual one. This will take place after the meetings of European leaders with Trump at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where the American president will lead the largest delegation in history. The retaliatory measures are intended to provide European leaders with leverage in discussions with Trump.
