The Vice-President of the European Parliament, Victor Negrescu, emphasized the need to reduce disparities in prevention and treatment among member states, considering that cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the EU, with 1.7 million deaths annually. Romania faces an alarming mortality rate due to these conditions, with over 50% of deaths caused by cardiovascular problems. The European plan, titled Safe Hearts, targets risk factors such as obesity, alcohol consumption, and smoking, proposing regulations for healthier food choices and policies to control tobacco and alcohol consumption. Additionally, member states could benefit from funding to implement more accessible prevention and treatment programs.
