The tragedy of the Gloria funicular in Lisbon, which occurred on Wednesday, was caused by the disconnection of the cable linking the cabins, according to a note from GPIAAF. The preliminary inspection did not detect any anomalies. The accident happened at a speed of 60 km/h, and cabin number 2 rolled back, while cabin number 1 continued to descend, derailing after 170 meters. The toll is 16 dead, including 5 Portuguese and 11 foreigners, and over 20 injured.
