The Croatian government announced a cap on the maximum selling price of fuels, setting the price of Eurosuper gasoline at 1.50 euros/liter and Eurodiesel at 1.55 euros/liter, starting from Tuesday and for the next two weeks. Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic emphasized that without these measures, prices would have been higher, namely 1.55 euros for gasoline and 1.72 euros for diesel, in the context of rising oil quotes due to the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
In Italy, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that the government is considering reducing fuel excise duties, given the sharp increase in energy prices. Authorities are analyzing the activation of the 'mobile excise' mechanism, which would allow the use of additional VAT revenues to reduce excise duties.
Business associations in Italy warn about the economic impact of rising energy costs, estimating additional costs of nearly 10 billion euros for companies. Consumer organizations and transporters are calling for immediate reductions in excise duties, while farmers fear significant losses due to the increase in the price of agricultural diesel.
