The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) has announced that it will cease operations due to the loss of federal funding, a decision that will severely affect local broadcasters. The US House of Representatives approved a $9 billion cut in public media funding, including $1.1 billion for CPB. Most employees will be laid off and a small staff will remain to manage the shutdown. CPB was created in 1967 and has annually distributed significant funds to public stations.
