The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the arrest of the commander of the 155th mechanized brigade, Stanislav Luceanov, and other members of the unit, who are suspected in a double murder case.
So far, ten people have been arrested, and Zelensky described the incident as a "horrible tragedy."
Luceanov, who took command of the brigade in February, is suspected of murder and risks life imprisonment.
The 155th mechanized brigade, known as "Anna of Kiev," was established in 2024 and was intended to become one of the best-trained combat units of the Ukrainian army. The project was presented by Presidents Emmanuel Macron and Volodymyr Zelensky as a symbol of military cooperation between France and Ukraine.
However, after the brigade was sent to the front, numerous controversies arose regarding the lack of equipment, mass desertions, and suspicions of corruption. The unit numbers approximately 4,500 soldiers, of which about half were trained in France.
These developments occur in the context of President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Paris, where he is participating in the Coalition of Will for Ukraine summit, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.
