The Bulgarian National Bank has purchased 66,000 troy ounces of gold, equivalent to 2,053.2 kilograms, before the adoption of the euro in 2026.

This transaction, which represents less than 1% of the foreign exchange reserves, ensures sufficient reserves for the transfer to the European Central Bank. The recent increase in the price of gold, driven by economic uncertainties, has led to increased demand from central banks. Christine Lagarde, the president of the ECB, has assured that Bulgaria will have a say in the ECB's decisions.
