The UK Gambling Commission has accused Meta Platforms, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, of deliberately facilitating the promotion of illegal online casinos on its platforms. Tim Miller, the authority's director, stated that users spending time on these platforms have encountered ads for illegal gambling operators. These ads promote sites that are not part of the UK 'GamStop' program, which allows players to self-exclude from licensed platforms. Miller dismissed Meta's claims that it would not be aware of these ads, emphasizing that Meta's public ad library allows for the identification of companies not in the 'GamStop' program. He criticized the limited progress in collaboration with Meta to remove illegal advertising, suggesting that the company could use its filtering tools to block such ads. Miller concluded that Meta seems to ignore the problem, continuing to generate revenue from criminals.
