The American military launched an attack on a ship in the Caribbean, resulting in the death of four people, according to the United States Southern Command. This attack is part of a series of operations against drug cartels, aimed at applying a "systemic fear" upon them. Since the beginning of these actions in September last year, the total number of deaths has reached at least 163, following over 45 attacks. The command stated that the attacked ship was involved in drug trafficking, but did not provide concrete evidence. These attacks have been criticized by international organizations, including the UN, which labeled them as extrajudicial executions. Additionally, a 2020 report from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration shows that most of the cocaine that reaches the U.S. comes from the Pacific, not the Caribbean.
