A tragic incident took place in Kiev on Saturday, when a 58-year-old man opened fire on passersby, killing six people before being shot by the police. The attacker, identified as Dmytro Vasylchenkov, a Ukrainian citizen born in Moscow, took hostages in a supermarket after randomly shooting on the street.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that authorities are investigating the motives behind the attack, which resulted in the deaths of seven people, including the attacker. According to a Russian database, Vasylchenkov reportedly had multiple bank accounts opened in Russia until 2021, as well as a Russian phone number. He also traveled to Russia several times in 2016.
Authorities suspect that the attack may be linked to a terrorist action orchestrated by Moscow, considering that the Kremlin has recruited Ukrainians for attacks on the country's infrastructure.
The incident is considered extremely rare in Ukraine, and officials continue to investigate the circumstances and motives behind it.
