The incident took place in Sisaket province, on the border with Cambodia, after the Malaysian prime minister and the US president brokered a ceasefire to halt the bloodiest conflict in a decade. Thailand claims Cambodian forces used small arms, while Cambodia denies the accusations, calling for independent observers. The ceasefire agreement also foresees a meeting between defense ministers on August 4, but tensions persist.
