Markwayne Mullin, the American Secretary of Homeland Security, stated that immigrants in the United States who benefit from Temporary Protected Status (TPS) should choose between obtaining permanent residency or returning to their countries of origin.
His statements were made during the "State of the Union" broadcast on CNN, in the context of a recent Supreme Court decision that allows the withdrawal of humanitarian status for hundreds of thousands of Haitian and Syrian immigrants. Mullin emphasized that TPS is not a permanent status and offered financial assistance for those who choose to return home. Although the Trump administration intends to end these protections, some voices, including Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, contest the expulsion of immigrants, highlighting their positive impact on the local economy.
