The Swiss will vote on Sunday, through a referendum, on a popular initiative against immigration, which proposes limiting the population to 10 million inhabitants by 2050, as well as on a government project regarding tightening the criteria for access to civil service.

The initiative, supported by the Swiss People's Party (SVP), aims to restrict immigration, in the context where foreigners make up over a quarter of the population of 9.5 million inhabitants. If the initiative is adopted, Switzerland would denounce the free movement agreement with the European Union, which could affect economic relations with this major trading partner. The government and the main parties oppose the initiative, arguing that it could affect the prosperity and humanitarian tradition of the country.

At the same time, the Swiss will also vote on a law that could restrict access to civil service, an alternative to military service, in the context of current geopolitical tensions. Polls show that the votes are close, with a slight favor for the 'no' option in the case of the anti-immigration initiative.
