In the spring of 2025, Sweden thwarted a cyber attack carried out by a pro-Russian hacker group targeting a power plant in the west of the country, according to statements from the Minister of Civil Defense, Carl-Oskar Bohlin. He specified that the attack was identified and neutralized by Swedish intelligence services, which managed to establish the hackers' connections to Russian intelligence services. Fortunately, there were no serious consequences due to an integrated protection mechanism. Bohlin emphasized that cyber threats have significantly increased since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, highlighting a change in Russia's behavior, which is becoming riskier.
The Swedish government is collaborating with allies to counter hybrid threats and has decided to make the incident public to raise awareness among the population. Sweden continues to provide military and economic support to Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of clear communication about the threats it faces.
