Sweden and Ukraine signed a letter of intent on Thursday to establish a joint weapons development center on Ukrainian territory. Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson stated that this center will allow Swedish personnel to collaborate on innovations in the defense field, enhancing the joint capacity to develop new technologies for the battlefield. Ukraine will bring its experience from the conflict, while Sweden will contribute its expertise in defense.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Denis Shmyhal emphasized that this partnership will open new opportunities for attracting Swedish investments and technologies in Ukraine's defense industry. Sweden has already provided significant assistance to Ukraine, including 9 billion dollars, and plans to allocate 8 billion dollars in military support in the coming years. The two countries also discussed the acquisition of Gripen E fighter jets, and Ukraine is ready to send pilots for training. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed hope that the delivery of the aircraft will begin within three years.
