In the recent weekend, several drones were observed above the Kleine-Brogel airbase in Belgium, which generated a maximum alert in Europe. The Belgian Minister of Defense, Theo Francken, stated that the drones appeared to be spying on the location of the F-16 aircraft and other strategic equipment.
The incident occurred in a context of increasing unauthorized air incursions in Europe. Francken mentioned that the drones flew at high altitude and monitored the base, but efforts to intercept them were unsuccessful. He also suggested that Russia could be involved, although he could not confirm this. This incident joins a series of suspicious drone flights recently observed in other European countries, including Germany, Denmark, and Norway, raising suspicions about national security. The Kleine-Brogel base is essential for NATO's nuclear deterrence strategy and hosts F-16 aircraft, which will soon be replaced by F-35s.
