Storm Floris brought strong winds and unusual weather for August, with gusts of up to 200 km/h in Cairngorm, Scotland. The Met Office issued an 'orange alert', disrupting transport and causing the cancellation of more than 100 performances at the Edinburgh Fringe arts festival. Almost 30,000 people were without power and rail networks were significantly affected. Authorities warned that the storm could also bring heavy rainfall.
