Heavy rain led to a state of emergency in New York and New Jersey, severely affecting rail and air traffic. The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings for areas in the northeast, including New York City. Authorities urged residents to avoid travel and some highways were closed. The heavy rains, estimated at up to 127 gallons per square meter, could cause flash flooding and other dangerous conditions.
