Coastal towns, accustomed to replenishing beaches with tons of sand before the tourist season, are now seeking more sustainable alternative solutions for the natural regeneration of the shoreline. Examples include dismantling promenades, removing breakwaters, installing reed barriers to trap sand, and moving material between sediment-deficient and sediment-rich areas. Some cities are trying to find a balance between protecting the environment and maintaining tourist facilities.
