The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, stated that the country will establish a national network of climate shelters in public buildings, intended to provide refuge for the population against heat waves before the arrival of next summer.

This initiative is part of a broader plan to address the impact of climate change, presented at a conference in Madrid. Sánchez emphasized that devastating droughts and heatwaves are no longer rare phenomena, mentioning that some summers turn into continuous heatwaves, from June to August. Spain recorded the highest temperatures in history last summer, with three heatwaves, and a 16-day heatwave in August led to temperatures exceeding 45°C.
