The incident occurred after a retaining wall collapsed onto the tracks, possibly due to heavy rains. This accident comes just two days after a train collision in Andalusia, which caused the death of 42 people. The Spanish Ministry of Transport described the accident in Andalusia as "truly strange," occurring on a straight line, without excessive speed. A section of damaged railway was found, but it is still unclear whether this was the cause of the derailment. Spain has begun three days of national mourning for the victims of the accident in Andalusia, and railway authorities are facing increasing pressure to ensure the safety of train travel.
