South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol lifted the martial law he had decreed hours earlier and ordered the withdrawal of troops deployed in Seoul.

Yoon Suk Yeol said the decision was taken to eliminate pro-North Korean forces from the country and protect the liberal constitutional order.
