Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced on Thursday that 613 drones were launched toward the Moscow region between October 28, 20:30 and October 29, 07:00, while the second day of the Russia-Africa summit was taking place in the Russian capital.
According to Sobyanin, most of the drones were neutralized remotely by the Russian Defense Ministry’s air defense. Another 231 drones were reportedly destroyed as they approached Moscow. The statement was not accompanied by independent information regarding the scale of the attack or any casualties and damage.
Moscow has been hosting the third Russia-Africa summit since Wednesday. The Kremlin claims that delegations from 48 countries were invited to the meeting, 22 of them led by heads of state.
In recent months, both sides have launched numerous drone and missile attacks. Sobyanin had previously stated that, in mid-September, Ukraine sent approximately 1,600 drones toward the Moscow region, the largest attack of this kind since the beginning of the war.
